The review below explains this short contemporary romance writer and book perfectly:

Verified Purchase
Jamaica-born Pennsylvania author Patrice M. Foster comes from an abusive background, having been abandoned by first her mother who fled to America to escape her abusive husband only to be deserted by the father resulting in Patrice and her siblings been placed in abusive foster homes. At age twelve she with her siblings were unsuccessfully reunited with their mother, returned to their father became homeless, and yet survived.
Patrice, incredibly, finished school and moved to New Jersey where she entered an LPN program 1986. After graduating, she relocated to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where she furthered her career by becoming an RN in 1998. She continued her education by pursuing a BSN program at Immaculate University. Aware of the poor treatment encountered by nurses, in 2000, she established her company, Respect Medical Services, through which she committed herself to improve the working conditions and compensation of medical personnel.

Her belief was that nurses who were treated and compensated as professionals were better able to perform as compassionate caregivers, thereby creating an environment beneficial to the physical and emotional wellbeing of their patients. Patrice’s greatest sense of accomplishment was achieved by securing employment for others. Though she closed her business in 2004, she continues to work as a nurse, as well as traveling the path to healing and self-discovery.

In Patrice’s early books she transforms this injurious life into stories that are heart rending, but now, in keeping with her background of survival against tough odds she turns her writing to Romances – each new story shares much of what she has experienced and has provided extraordinary growth.

The synopsis of this very brief (33 pages) novella follows: ‘When hot and handsome Vince Moretti walks into Ashley Santoro’s life, she ultimately has to decide whether she will continue to hold onto the bad-girl, biracial routine that has her looking for love in superficial relationships only—or if what she has with this star basketball player is true love. Emotionally neglected and abandoned by her mother and father, the Ashley series details a courageous journey of a young adult fielding her way through alcoholism and overeating into her own discovery of how to love and how to be loved. Accused of soliciting sex from three New York Knicks players at a party in Manhattan, Ashley abandons her promising new relationship with Vince, a partnership that she feels she does not deserve. Caught up in a cycle of self-defeat, will Ashley continue her downward spiral and ultimately sabotage her first true love, as well?’

Patrice understands character development well and a times her prose is poetically subtle – ‘When Ashley misted her hybrid orchid— a bright red Cattleya Circle of Life— she momentarily forgot that her own life had no love. Its brilliant top petals fanned open within twelve hours one evening, captured by a time-release video that she’d painstakingly prepared for extra credit. Even her botany teacher voiced amazement at the sheer size of its lateral sepals and vibrant yellow stigmatic surface— the orchid itself, seven inches in diameter— all carefully cultivated by a senior-high student with a reputation among peers and teachers alike for being so implacably rude and angry. Its dorsal sepal cascaded above the rest of the botany projects lined in Edward R. Murrow High’s greenhouse, and for all intents and purposes, Ashley’s plant should’ve withered in sorrow. But it thrived.

Ashley herself believed that meant something— but for the time being, she didn’t know what. Any aspirations, hopes and dreams she’d imagined for herself remained narrowly confined to botany class.’

Patrice knows the right mixture of raw language and tenderness and this is one short but very powerful little romance. Watch her grow. Grady Harp, February 17

When the Dead Come A Knockin’ by B.L. Brunnemer A New Adult Fiction Book

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

What is not to love about this new adult fiction book except it had to end and book 3 is not out! I read this 500+ page book is a little over 2 days. I love this series and have been hooked from book 1. Usually, I fizzle out when the series is not already out together but not with this one. I was just as hungry for book two a month later as I was when I left off book 1.

This book offers so much. Lexie is a heroine to so many females. She stands up to bullies and bi***es; she refuses to back down from her beliefs; she loves wholeheartedly, and she never lets people down. That is why I want to know more about Dylan and his science project.

I really hope book 3 opens up more secrets and explodes with harem finally taking its rightful place. Two books are enough teasing! I’m not sure about Zeke though. His girlfriend is the best and even better is the best kind of friend for Lexie. Hmmm…I guess I will have to wait and see, which I hope will be REALLY freaking soon!

If you haven’t read this series yet, you have to start with book 1:

Trying To Live With The Dead (The Veil Diaries Series Book 1)

This book is simply amazing.  You can’t read these books out of order or they won’t make any sense.  So, go here and book 1 through Amazon for $4.99 and begin an amazing adventure!  Here is a little teaser:

Hi, I’m Alexis Delaney. I’m your average 17-year-old girl. Except I can see the dead. And talk to the dead. And push them away and, well, help them move on. So..okay, I’m not your average 17-year-old girl. For years I’ve been struggling to survive the souls still roaming around. The shitheads always seem to find me. Moving from town to town every few months never helped either. More dead just always find me. But things are changing for me now. I’m moving in with my uncle Rory and cousin Tara. I’m finally going to be able to do normal teenage stuff I’ve been missing out on. Right?

Well, if this one bitch of a ghost could leave me alone on campus that would be great. Especially since I haven’t told my new friends about my abilities. Can you believe this? Five good looking guys practically adopt me on my first day of school, and I still think they’re a bit nuts for it. Now if I can only just keep my life with the dead from mixing with my normal life, everything would be great. Yeah…I don’t see that happening either. But I’m going to give it a shot. Who knows? It might work.

Making the Grade by Kelly Collins
My rating: 5 of 5 starsMaking the Grade

Normally, I am not into book sets because there is not enough connection for me, but Collins does an outstanding job connecting all the characters making it feel like a crazy sexually dysfunctional family. The concept is not original in the fact that women and men are trading “time” for money, but the company itself is unusual. The men and women on both sides are there for different reasons, and I loved all the main characters. I loved seeing them grow and learn and most of learn to love and accept themselves. This book gets an A+++ from me. I am so glad that I have Amazon’s KU plan because I get all these wonderfully interesting books for one low price, and I love it since I am a voracious reader. This collection is well worth any price.

In her spare time, she enjoys walking the trails and visiting the mining towns like Cripple Creek. She likes to think it’s the ambience that brings her there and not the amazing slot machine in the back of the casino.

In the winter, you’ll find her tucked into herseat at The World Arena cheering her beloved Colorado College Tigers Hockey Team.  After several losing seasons she knows there’s a win coming soon. Kelly is no fair weather fan.

She has three amazing children, and she wonders how they all turned out to be engineers when only the creative side of her brain seems to work. She just chalks it up to the engineering genes her husband contributed to the mix.

Read an excerpt from this touching Contemporary Gay Romance:

Hayden opened a door that led outside to a small courtyard. “You looked like you needed a break.”

Sean stared at him and Hayden gestured for him to go in. “Honey, if you sat any stiffer than you were, you’d have snapped in half.”

Too relieved to deny it, Sean walked onto the pavement and took a deep breath. Even the heat didn’t bother him. “Thanks.”

“You’re not one for crowds are you?”

He shook his head.

“Doesn’t that make your job difficult?”

“No. They stay on the other side of the bar.”

Hayden nodded in understanding. “Take your time. I can get them to reheat your lunch when you come back in.”

He was so incredibly sweet and perceptive. Sean didn’t want to be attracted to him, but it was hard not to be. The man knew what he wanted. “I appreciate it.”

Hayden smiled and left, shutting the door behind him.

Sean sat on the stone bench and breathed deeply. The murmur of voices and clattering of cutlery was background noise. Here he was alone.

He was better when he was alone. No expectations, no need to pretend to be someone he wasn’t, no pressures. He closed his eyes to center himself. He’d learned the technique from one of his workmates when she’d realized he was having a panic attack.

He needed time to absorb the moment. He was at his sister’s wedding. He’d walked her down the aisle. Five months ago, he hadn’t known his sisters existed, and now they wanted him to be part of their lives. He couldn’t express what that meant to him. They were so welcoming and honest. But he was lying to them, pretending to be someone he wasn’t. If he was being honest, he’d be flirting with Hayden, hoping they’d hook up while he was here.

But he couldn’t be.

He had to hide his attraction, ignore it, pretend he was straight so his sisters would still like him.

To be rejected again when he’d finally found family would be too much.

He breathed deeply. They never needed to know. He’d be back in Ireland in a few weeks, back to his normal existence where he hid who he was. The thought held no appeal.

Bare Bone Love and Suspense – Southern Style

Book Description:
Love
and Suspense – Southern Style
When a skull is found buried in the
courtyard of the Art House during renovations, executive director Meredith
O’Neill is forced to halt the over-budget and oft-delayed project. Working with
architect Kieran Ford has been a nightmare, despite his icy good-looks and
brilliant design. Now that the Art House is declared a crime scene, the entire
project is threatened. Forced to work together in close proximity, Meredith and
Kieran soon find the tensions between them changing into something else
entirely. Still, she can’t help but wonder how long the heat between them will
last, especially when Kieran was once so cold.
Kieran is donating his time and talents
to the Art House renovation, but working with Meredith is driving him crazy,
and his pro bono project is quickly
going south. When the skull of a child is discovered, Kieran must confront his
own loss as well as keep the project, and Meredith, on task.  Keeping his emotions in check proves to be
impossible, and Kieran soon realizes that he is falling for Meredith. When he
is framed for a crime, Kieran must learn to trust again. He and Meredith form
an uneasy alliance as they seek answers to the mystery at the Art House. But
someone is intent on destroying the historic building . . . and won’t hesitate
to harm anyone who gets in the way.

Excerpt:
The skull was small, that of a woman or child, the lower jaw
separated in the dirt, as if the mouth had been open during the internment
process. The foreman scraped away at the mud revealing a few bone fragments.
The clenched hand, turned upward, was disarticulated from the arm, as if the
skeleton had thrust its fist in anger at the gods. The man jerked back. It was
definitely a human skull. And this was no cemetery.
“Call the police,” he said to his worker. “And you better call the
architect, too.”
Meredith
stood over the hole, her four-inch heels sinking into the red clay, her linen
dress sticking to her body, slick with perspiration. She could clearly see bits
of bone and the smooth curve of the skull. There were a few longer bones
scattered about and what appeared to be a hand, balled up and reaching to the
sky. The grave was shallow, only a few feet deep, and it was a wonder that the
bones hadn’t appeared sooner. Meredith placed her hands on her hips, resisting
the impulse to jump into the hole and free the remaining skeleton from the dirt
and cradle it in her arms.
“It’s got to be human.” The foreman wiped his brow with a dirty
towel. Red clay smeared his forehead like dried blood.
“It’s a child,” Meredith said. She crouched down, looking closer.
Yes, it had to be a child. She cleared the muck from the back of her throat.
Digging her fingers in the mounded dirt, she felt the soil clump together
before she released it. The resting place for this poor soul. “I called the
police. Did you call the architect?”
The foreman nodded. The courtyard was quiet, the digger now
stopped, the work crew standing idly by, their heads hung in deference to the
grave.
Meredith stood up and brushed the morsels of clay from her
fingers. “I suppose we’ll be delayed again.” She didn’t know what else to say.
Turning her back on the hole, she saw the crowd of workers part and the
architect trudged toward her, his sleeves rolled up in the heat, his expression
that of exasperation. “Hello, Kieran,” she said. She offered her hand to him
even as her back stiffened. Although he was the project manager on this job, he
was still the last person she wanted to see.
“I halted the work. I’m sorry. I know we’re behind schedule
already…” He flung a tube of blue prints to the ground. He had a sheen of
perspiration in his forehead, which he wiped away impatiently. Dressed in
khakis and a button-down shirt, he looked as wilted as Meredith felt.
“The police are on their way.” Meredith stepped back as Kieran
gave her a look and then made his way to the edge of the dig site and looked
in.
“Shit.” He ran his fingers through his fair hair, the strands
sticking together and becoming disarrayed. “I’ve seen this before. In Mosul.
That’s definitely human.”

Title: Staking a Claim

Author: Devon McKay

Genre: Contemporary Romance

For most people, seeing Alaska is a dream come true. For Miami Beach resident, Samantha Held, it is merely a job assignment. Creating an advertisement for vacationing in the state gets her one step closer to achieving her career goal—partnership in Kolinsky’s Advertisement Agency.

Blake Langford is not willing to accept any exploitation of his beloved state, no matter how desirable the striking, southern blonde bombshell with fiery green eyes is, and he’s determined to sabotage Sam’s goal in every way. Falling in love with the enemy, however, was never part of the plan.

Author Bio

Devon McKay writes contemporary romance with a western flair. If she’s not writing, she’s busy with chores on her small ranch, working on a stained glass project or walking one of her three dogs through the woods. Her greatest joy is putting a smile on a reader’s face and hearing from fans.

Book Excerpt

Fuming, Sam held his gaze as she considered his offer. She couldn’t have asked for a better opportunity to be dropped into her lap. She could learn everything she needed to know about Alaska and have a handsome, but overly protective, guide of the state to show her. Not to mention what his knowledge could do for the brochure.

It would also mean more time in his temperamental company.

Sam considered her options. She had gotten lucky finding Carlton Landing, but what about locating her elusive hotel? As proven last night, it was more than evident she couldn’t even read a map correctly. So, what real choice did she have?

She pictured her new office…the view of the ocean…the partnership. She was willing to take the chance. Besides, she’d never been the kind of girl who shied away from a challenge. Hell, so far, her life had been a series of challenges.

“It’s a deal.” Her voice came off cool and professional despite the quickening of her heartbeat. She offered her hand to shake on the agreement. “We haven’t officially met. Samantha Held. I go by Sam.”

“Blake Langford.” He extended his, grasping her hand and repeating the name she already knew by heart. He held onto her grasp for a minute longer than necessary. “I go by Wolf.”

Again, the breathtaking grin resurfaced, and an odd pulsation spiked through Sam, leaving her insides quivering like a bowl of gelatin as she second guessed her decision.

What kind of fool makes a deal with a man called Wolf?
